Yonkers PD

YPD PatchOur Mission
The Mission of the Yonkers Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our city - by working in cooperation with the public we serve to maintain a feeling of mutual safety and security - by enforcing the law within the framework of the Constitution - and by providing those services which will protect the people, preserve the peace and contribute to a safe environment for all.

Message from Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett

Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett On behalf of the men and women of the Yonkers Police Department, welcome to our website. It is our hope that you will continue to use this site to stay informed of developments in your Police Department and in your city.

The Yonkers Police Department will continue to address the following priorities: Guns, Gangs, Drugs, Quality of life issues and the search for Wanted Persons. While significant improvements in these areas have been made over the years, we must remain vigilant. Excellent arrests, outstanding investigations, improved technology, targeted patrol strategies, the institution of the Compstat process and increased crime prevention efforts are some of the "tools in our toolbox" that are being used in the fight against crime.

Another priority of the Department is to continue to build upon the solid relationship between the police and the community we serve. A successful police department must work in partnership with the community. We need your input. Please let us know when we've done a good job and when we need to make improvements.

In today's post-9/11 world, every police agency must be vigilant regarding the threat of terrorism. The Yonkers Police Department will continue its tireless efforts in this area. Working in partnership with our local, state and federal colleagues, we will do what is necessary to keep Yonkers safe and secure.

Thank you for visiting the Yonkers Police Department website. Working together, the community and the Police can continue to make Yonkers a safe place to live, to work, to visit, to do business and to raise a family.

Important Information When Calling 911: Wireless or cellular telephone calls made to "911" are answered by the New York State Police who in turn ask the caller for their specific location and connect the caller to the local Police Department responsible for that area. This causes a slight delay in dispatching help to a location and therefore when possible use a wired home phone and not a cell phone to call "911". If you use a cell phone to call the Yonkers Police Department for an emergency dial: 377-7777.

The Fifth Yonkers Police vs. Yonkers Firefighter Charity Tough-man Competition
has ended, and it was a huge success. Yonkers Police took 6 of 9 bouts – including winning matches by Keith Olson, William Quirk, Danny Egan, Ray Thomas, Anthony DiMaggio, and Mark Wissner. Commendable effort was displayed by Sean Drain, Neil Vera and Jim McDonough. The house was packed and the money raised will be donated to Heartsong – a local charity for Children with Disabilities. Commissioner Hartnett wishes to extend his congratulations to all involved on a job well done.
